Hello?!?!

Indiana is a 7 seed.
Texas Tech is a 10 seed.
7 seeds play 10 seeds.
Texas Tech is coached by Robert Montgomery Knight.
Said Coach Knight was fired from IU after questionable and controversial incidents.

So, IU opens up the tournament by playing....

Gonzaga.

How can you do that?

Maybe they'll meet in the championship game. :) A first-round matchup would have made for good drama, anyway...

Don't know much about seeds...but you're right, it would have been an interesting "rematch".

I saw that a #3 or 4 seed was playing a #23 seed in the West conference. How does that work?? I need some edumication.

Umm, not sure what you saw....4 seeds normally play 13 seeds (maybe a typo). In general, in the first round, the seeds should add up to 17. Then, assuming no upsets, the seed will add to 9 in the second round, 5 in the third, and 3 in the fourth.

"Assuming no upsets"... :) There are always upsets - the trouble is in guessing where they will happen!

Why the funny rule involving addition?

And someone explain to me how that's fair to the poor lower-ranked teams who have to play the really good guys first?? Or am I confused about how important "seeds" are?

BTW, I'm thrilled to finally get some answers! lol

It's not punishment for the higher seeds, it's a reward for the lower seeds. If you're the best team in the nation, we want to reward you for playing well all season by giving you an easier road to the finals--because you've proven you should probably be there.

On a side note, since when has no 12 seed upset a 5 seed? That's put a dent in my bracket...
