Weirdness

Today, after school, I took my time....graded a few papers, made some copies, took care of a few minor details, and then drove home.

It was really weird.

I haven't done that in four-plus months, and it just felt weird. No rushing to practice, no figuring out what to eat before late practice, no chatting basketball with the coaches. And I need to start thinking about golf team stuff--rules meeting on Monday, with practice starting the following week.

Weird.

Dunks

Last night, in the JV game (the JV game!!!), one of our guys dunked the ball. How cool is that? A small (for its class) 3A school had a guy throw it down in the JV game. It was pretty cool. :) Have I used the word "cool" enough yet? Apparently the guy gets money from his dad for dunking in a game. As if the coolness factor isn't enough...

Humiliation extreme

I'm getting the smackdown laid on me by an old fart on another blog....at least, so he claims. Now, do I laugh at him, or do I wallow in embarassment? :)

Getting old

Made a quick, one-day excursion back to Bloomington yesterday to (illegally) help out some old grad school buddies play some basketball. It was tourney time, but one of their team of six is hurt and so couldn't play. Plus, they really have only one guard, so I was glad to fill in a much needed backcourt position. Of course, I'm so out of shape that after about three minutes I was tired. Still, it was a lot of fun, though we lost. I am feeling the effects of it, though...my whole body is pretty sore. Of course, there are more causes to that, most likely. After the game, we played some poker, which was a blast. But, since I was very successful (of course--I can say "of course" because none of the poker people read this, I don't think), that meant I was playing until after 11pm (hey, 4 hours is worth the $15 I netted, right?). So, I crashed on a couch in Btown, which means a very comfortable night of sleep, before driving the over-an-hour back to Terre Haute. Personally, when I'm stiff and sore, I always find that sitting in a car for extended periods of time helps a lot....must be getting old.

Nail-biter

Entered the fourth quarter with an 18 point lead. Should be an easy win, right?

With under a minute to go, they had the ball, with multiple chances to score very close to the basket, only down 3.

West Vigo won the first and fourth quarters by a combined 14 points. Fortunately, we won the middle two quarters by a combined 20 points. How often do you see some crazy like that?!?

Senior night tonight, and I should have a bunch of friends there who are going to worship and hang out with me. Hopefully a great day!

We're having fun now

Thirty minutes of shoveling snow accomplishes what? Removal of snow on driveway, sidewalk, and part of deck, to reveal a nice layer of ice on all said walkways. So, I am convinced I can get out, but no guarantees I will be able to drive back up the driveway afterwards. Fun stuff! Anyway, I'm feeling too lazy to actually try to chip through all the ice with my shovel, so it's going to have to stay as is for awhile.

Snow emergencies

So, practice didn't happen today, but it's scheduled for tomorrow. Of course, there's one minor problem with that--Vigo County and Sullivan County roads are currently closed. So, Shawn may not be going to practice tomorrow...we'll have to see how things look tomorrow afternoon. That being said, I hope my milk lasts....I only have like 1/3 of a gallon left.

On a lighter note, it's funny how many hits my blog suddenly gets now that everyone is stuck at home wondering what they are going to do with their day. Unfortunately, none of these people live in Terre Haute, so I'm stuck here by myself. :(

Shoveling ice

Have you ever tried to shovel gravel? Me neither, but today I got really close. There were layers of ice to try to shovel off of my driveway (which I have to use to go to basketball practice, of course), and I got through about half of the second layer before I need to get ready to leave. It's amazing what 16 hours of sleet will do.

This was the view outside my place this morning about 8:30 am, so can you imagine what the additional six hours of sleet have done to the area. Pray I may it to school and back safely!

Disappointments

We were supposed to have a basketball game tonight at West Vigo. So, I spent all of today getting psyched for a couple of exciting (or hopefully, not that exciting) basketball games. Then, a water main broke at West Vigo, so the game got pushed back until next week. :(

Plus, to further add insult to injury, since we had a game today, it felt like Friday the entire day. But, of course, it's not, so I still have school tomorrow, which is totally going to be a letdown. Not that I hate my job or anything, break weekends are nice. :)

More affirmation, and much coolness

Once again, I got a little affirmation over the weekend, although it was from an unexpected source. The Carmel swing kids mentioned that the picture I use with my profile was labelled on the girl's computer as "sexy Shawn and I." Now, I don't feel particular confident in my physical appearance (6'1", 140 lbs is not the "ideal" physique for a man, as stupid as that is to worry about), and even if it's a picture with both of us and it's kind of a combined "sexy," not specifically directed at me, but it was still to get that kind of affirmation. Frankly, I think the picture makes me look strong, in some sense...just the strong frame that she and I both have. Ok, enough of me being vain...

As for the coolness, this was one of the coolest things I've seen in a while. A guy at church (with one of his buddies) bought a bear-shaped honey container. Then, they got rid of all the honey. Then they took the numerous packages of gummy bears which they bought in the aforementioned purchase and melted them down, before pouring the liquid mess into the bear mold. After it cooled, they cut away the mold, creating an 8" tall gummy bear. How cool is that?!? Can you imagine a bag full of those?
